WHY MEN SAY IT WITH FLOWERS

(Special Correspondent NJSF.AJ

LONDON, Jan. 29.

Men send or take flowers only as a means to a selfish end. They are just being practical. They are either using flowers as an easy way out of a variety of difficult situations or as a “softeningup” process. These are some conclusions in a report on the market for flowers in Britain prepared by the Horticultural Research' Oouncii.

The report suggests that in buytag flowers, a man “is on a pretty good thing. Flowers are much more than a decoration to women. They feel emotionally involved, whether they are young or odd, rich or poor.” Even so, adds the report.

many women will never get flowers because their menfolk think they look “cissies” carrying them home. The report strongly criticises Britain’s florists and says that many women prefer to buy flowers from a market stall “because girls serving in florists’ shops are so darned superior. Too many florists regard themselves as ‘artists’ instead of flower sellers and insist on too much profit.” The report says it is saddening to find that flowers could only be described as an accepted and normal feature of home life in the upper end of the middle dees When it come to funerals, however, the position was reversed.
