NO LAW ON FAMILIES
“Parents Must Have Choice” (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 27. It was unlikely that the day would ever come when th., size of families was limited by law, said Dr. Eleanor Mears, medical secretary to the Family Planning Association, when she arrived in Auckland at the week-end. Dr. Mears said the problem of population pressure was world-wide, but parents must have a free choice in deciding the size of their families. The number of children people should have depended on many factors, Including the temperament and attitude of the parents, their financial position and health. Now a London gynaecologist, Dr. Mears is married with three children. She formerly lived and practised in Christchurch for about 10 years.
Dr. Mears is on her way to the International Planned Parenthood Conference in Singapore. It will consider world population problems and between 400 and 500 delegates are expected to attend. After the Singapore meeting she will attend conferences b Bombay and Brussells.
After 40, men have married their habits, and wives are only an item in the list, and not the most important— George Meredith.
