Glorious Kingdom (6/1) gave the apprentice, R Spackman, his most important win when he scored in the Australia Day Handicap at Randwick today. The colt’s success gave M McCarten and Sir Adolph Basser a winning double The combination was successful with Nobile in the

Sunnyside Handicap. At his previous start. Glorious Kingdom was beaten by Gold Reply in the Neville Sellwood Memorial Handicap, at Kembla on the south coast.

After being well back on the run to the turn. Glorious Kingdom got a run through the field and went to the poet full of running to beat Ginnagulla by three-quarters of a length. The time was fast. Glorious Kingdom covering the seven furlongs in Itnin 23 2-seec—only 1 2-ssec outside the Australian record.

The New Zealand-bred Alpensea. starting 7/4 favourite, gave the leading trainer, T. J. Smith,, his first Anniversary Handicap win today; but only by a halfhead. He beat the 33/1 outsider Zend, with Emboss second favourite at 3/1, third Although it was Smith’s first Anniversary win, the crowd gave the Jockey, G Moore, a big hand when he brought Alpensea back to scale. It was Moore's third winner for the day, his previous wins having been on Nobile and Enfold.
