Yachting SANDERS CUP
Auckland Win Two Races (N JL Press Asaoctattos) DUNKDIN, January 28. Auckland established what eould be a winning lead in the Sanders Cup contest on Otago Harbour today, when, the skipper, T. Bouzaid, took the first two races in his yacht. Delta. Nine boats from throughout New Zealand started in the first and second heats for this trophy for X class craft For the first race, the wind waa a moderate southerly and the course windward-leeward, four times round. Auckland crossed the finishing line first followed by Bay of Plenty. Wellington put Southland about just short of the finish and crossed in third place. Although Southland capsized, she was quickly righted and finished a few seconds in front of Otago. It was then found that Wellington omitted to round the first mark correctly, and it was disqualified. Official platings and points for the first race were: Auckland (Delta, T. Bouzaid), 1055 points 1; Bay of Plenty (Bambino. J. Williams). 754. 2: Southland (Heather, M. J. King), 578, 3; Otago (Coronet. J. B. Bulger). 453, 4. The second race waa held over a three-lap triangular course in a light south-east-erly. Official placngs and points for the second race were: Auckland, 1065 points. 1: Bay of Plenty, 754, 3; Manawatu (Roseann. W. Bennetto), 575. 3: Otago, 453, 4. After two racee. points are: Auckland 3110, Bay of Plenty 1508, Otago 908. Manawatu 855, Southland 788.
