Swedish Conductor For Detroit Post
The Swedish conductor Sixiten Ehrldng. associated with the Stockholm Royal Opera as “HovkapeUmastare” (court conductor) for many years, has been appointed principal conductor and artistic adviser of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. He has been placed under contract for a period of three years and will succeed the 76-year-old conductor Paul Paray.
Ehrfing. who is 44, will also appear with the Detroit Orchestra in New York. Boston and Philadelphia. This is the first time that a Swedish conductor has been given charge of a large American symphony orchestra.
