Only Budgie Saved

INVERCARGILL January 28 A pet budgie was all that was saved by Henry Albert O’Brien and his wife, of 17 Papototara road. Tua taper*, when their home was destroyed by fire on Saturday night.
Mr O'Brien did not discover the fire until it had a good hold of the wooden building He and hi* wife fled from the house in their night attire As they left they had only time to snatch up the bird’s cage The Tuatapere Volunteer Fire Brigade attended bat the water supply was hopelessly inadequate The two 9000
tanks were full when the brigade arrived but within minutes they were empty. There was only sufficient pressure for the brigade to operate one hose.
