Ships Idle At Port
Labour was very short on the waterfront at Lyttelton yesterday, and among ships idle were the Holmburn. Maranui, and Kawaroa. which has a cargo of gypsum from South Australia. Vessels short-manned were th< City of Brisbane discharging North American cargo, the Kwangsi from the Far East, the Donegal from the United Kingdom and the ci. aster, Poranui. Jobs could have been found for another 260 men yesterday morning. The departures of the German freighter. Cap Finisterre, t't coaster Holmwood, and the British cargo liner, Hinak ira. eased the position for today, but there is no signs of a rapid improvement Rail waggons and tarpaulins were sufficient ter vessels to work overtime last evening.
