Un-named Man Leaves Gift
A man, who said he wished to remain anonymous, recently walked into the Wellington office of the general secretary of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand and left a parcel for the National Council of Churches’ Christmas appeal The parcel contained £lOOO in banknotes. The council’s office in Christchurch yesterday received a cheque for this amount to cover the gift towards the £60.000 appeal. So far, the appeal has only exceeded £lO,OOO.
The money will be used for scholarships and a laity training centre for Indonesia, travel costs for Hong Kong orphans coming to New Zealand, and for the training of “unemployable” men in Hong Kong Support will be given to educational programmes in Africa and churches in the Pacific, Christian workers in Indonesia and Calcutta, Indian churches sending a missionary to Fiji, a home for aged refugees in New Zealand, and world refugee programmes.
Children will be given food and medical care, funds will be ret aside to help in times of disaster and emergency anywhere in the world, and money will be sent for Christian programmes to India, Pakistan. Thailand. Nepal, Formosa and the Arabs in the Middle East. Contributions have come from a variety of sources Churches, ministers’ associations, Sunday schools, church camps, Bible classes, schools, youth clubs. Rotary clubs, nurses, Girls' Life Brigade companies, factory staffs, and families have all responded to the appeal
