Rain Mars Third Day’s Play (NZ. Press Association—Copyright) ADELAIDE, January 28. England’s hopes of saving the fourth test against Australia rose today after rain marred the day’s play. Almost three of the six scheduled hours were lost because of rain and bad light. When the umpires suspended play at 5.15 became of the light, England had scored 328 for nine wickets in a spirited fight in reply to Australia’s first innings of 393.

When play began for the day after lunch, England quickly lost its captain, Dexter. who was caught at the
wicket by Grout off McKenzie. McKenzie also captured the only wicket to fall in the session—lllingworth, caught
Grout Defiance by Titmus But in the final session, Titmus defied the Australian bowling and found lively support from Trueman who hit two magnificent sixes off Benaud and included five boundaries in his 38 in 37 minutes. McKenzie tonight had taken five for 86 after a marathon 32 overs in the innings, emphasising his rising importance to Australia with Davidson’s retirement just around the corner. With two days’ play ’ remaining, England has a fair prospect of forcing a draw.
