FIRED NEW FOUNTAIN

A man set tire to Tauranga'* new fountain on Friday night, burned a 40ft strip of paint around it. and left the damage to be repaired by the Tauranga Junior Chamber, which built the fountain last year. | Soon after midnight a man arrived at the park, poured a can of petrol into the main bowl of the fountain, and set ft alight.
A spokesman for the Junior Chamber, which built the fountain from funds and material given by the public, said another man who was watching the fountain, tried to stop the assault •a the fountain. All he gat far Ma pains were abuse and torn clothes.
