(N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, January 27. High scoring marked the opening day of the first South Island schoolboys’ cricket tournament in Invercargill on Saturday. Four games were played, the winning teams being Canterbury A. Canterbury B, and Blenheim Otago and Ashburton drew. Scores:— Southland A; First Innings 77 (L Shirley 26 M Creighton 18; H. Joseph three for 9, L. Chambers two for 11). Canterbury A: 136 for for five (N. Walker 56 retired. R. Geary si retired, J. Wilson two for 12, I. Shirley one for 6). Southland B: First innings 40 (A. Donaldson 11; G. Kirk three for 4, N. McLaine six for 20). Blenheim: First innings 98 for two declared (W. Helsenbuttle 32. D. Robinson 31 not out). Southland B: second innings 39 (N. McLaine three for 13. W. Helsenbuttle three for 11). Canterbury B: First innings. 143 for five declared (B. O'Sullivan 31, T. White 39 not out. B. McCallum four for 24) Eastern Southland: First innings 50 (B. McCallum 24. J. Argyle 9; P. McKenzie four for 4. C. Clarke two for 0). Ashburton: First innings. 133 <C. d'Auvergne 25. R.
