Arneb Loads For Last Trip South
About 1900 tons of cargo, stores and supplies will be put aboard the United States cargo ship Ameb at Lyttelton before she sails for McMurdo Sound about next Saturday. The Ameb returned to Lyttelton yesterday morning from Wellington where she was in dry dock. A propeller, damaged in heavy ice, ’-as been replaced by a spare. The tips of two propeller blades were broken, a third was cracked, and the fourth bent Repairs were also made to her strained forward bulkheads. A call will be made at Cape Hallett on the journey south and stores will be landed there by her landing craft The bulk of her cargo is for McMurdo Base. The Ameb will then bring back most of the summer support group from the base to Lyttelton, and return to the United States. The Arneb yesterday began bunkering for her voyage.
