Awanui Ends Trials
(NZ. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Dec. 28.
The last ship to be built under the Northern Steam Ship Company’s 1953 building policy, the Awanui. has completed her final trials, and will sail from Hong Kong to New Zealand shortly, Captain A. G. Hardy, general manager of the company, said at New Plymouth tonight. Captain Hardy, who was aboard the ship for her final trials in Hong Kong last week, said the Awanui had performed very satisfactorily. She would be used for eastern coastal trade in New Zealand waters, he said.
The Awanui was the last of seven ships built for the company since 1953, and would be the tenth of the company’s fleet engaged in coastal trading.
