EXAMINATION SUCCESSES
Radio Advice To Geologists (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 16. Two young Auckland geologists who are with field parties in Antarctica this summer have received good news from home by radio. Both received honours in geology for their master’s degree. The two geologists. Messrs D. N. B. Skinner and P. J Barrett, are ’ spending the summer in the Antarctic, carrying out field surveys. Mr Skinner, who was awarded first-class honours, is with the four-man southern field party of the NewZealand Antarctic group, surveying the Victoria Land mountains north-west of Scott Base. His party was flown over the impassable David glacier recently, after completing 500 miles of dog sledging since October 19. Mr Barrett, who received second-class honours. is working with a party from the University of Minnesota in the Sentinel mountains, inland from the Bellingshausen Sea. Both men were advised of their success by messages sent through Scott Base and relayed to them in the field.
