MAN FALLS FROM TRAIN

A ma” who was injured when he fell from a railway carriage platform in the Lyttelton tunnel was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital with head injuries on Saturday evening. He is Robert Reid, a junior engineer on the liner Ruaihine Mr Reid boarded the 6.15 p.m. Lyttelton train at Heathcote. He was with a group on the platform of the last carriage, and when the train was about 100 yards from the tunnel exit he fell off the platform The train had reduced speed because it was near the tunnel mouth, and was quickly stopped when the alarm was given Dr N D Walker. Constable D. J- JBack, and railwaymen went into the tunnel, and Mr Reid was brought out on a stretcher carried on a railway jigger. Two members of the Lyttelton St. John Ambulance Association met the jigger at the tunnel mouth and Mr Reid was taken to Che Christchurch Hospital. In addition to his bead injury he had minor abrasions.
