CHRISTMAS TREE SALES

£550 Raised By Round Tables The Christchurch Round Table and the Ashburton Round Table raised about £550 for needy children from their annual sale of Christmas trees in Christchurch on Saturday, disposing of about 150 trees to the public. The return of £550 was below the figure of £lOOO aimed at, said Mr N. C. Perkins, one of the organisers, yesterday. About 90 persons helped with the project, some of whom rose as early as 3 a.m. to cut young pine trees. The trees were brought in to 21 selling points throughout the city, which were in radio contact with the plantation at which the trees were cut, so as to match the supply to the demand. The proceeds would be applied in the main to the Save-the-Children Fund, said Mr Perkins. A small balance would be allocated to each round table taking part in the scheme, to assist needy children in its own district.
