Soroptimist Club Party
Every year on December 10, Soroptimists’ Clubs throughout the world—and there are 1430 of them in 31 countries —observe International Night. Though a week early, the Soroptimist Club of Christchurch celebrated the occa-
sion last evening, in association with its Christmas party The president (Mrs D. J. Wales) welcomed about 36 members and friends to the dinner party, which was held at the Takahe.
The intemationial aspect of the function was introduced in the programme of entertainment, the Christmas spirit by club members who took gifts for distribution among the aged in Christchurch. Wearing the full national dress of her country, Mrs Lauma Hunter, a former actress from Latvia, told a Christmas story by Dostoievski, which she had translated from Russian. Mre Heaither Taylor sang a bracket songs by English composers, accompanied by Mrs J. Davies. Past-Presidents’ Badges During the evening Mre Wales presented special badges to past presidents of the club, which has classification membership They were as follows: Miss H. K. Lovell-Smith, a social worker, the founder president; Miss Nancy Northcroft, then Regional Planner; Mre Mollie McNab, a radio announcer; Miss Betty Loughhead, an advertising manager Mrs K. J. Ford, principal of the Girls’ Training Centre, another former president, was unable to attend to receive her badge.
