LOCAL HORSES INJURED
Float Accident On West Coast Payout, Hopeful. Argu* and Sirtax will not. be able to fulfil their engagements at Omoto today. These four members of G. H. Murfitt jun’s team were ttxjurwd when the fload in which they were travelling to Greymouth ran off the road acid turned on its side near Totara Flat early yesterday morning.
The horses were trapped in the float for about an hour after the accident A tractor had to be used to pull the partitions out of the vehicle so the horses could be releaeed. All were bruised md lost some skm but the worst sufferer of all was Hopeful, which was in the partition on the up-turned side of the float. After the horses wks released they were taken to the stables of W. Dudley, at Totara Flat.
The float, which is owned by the Riccarton trainer. J. A. Cox, left Riccarton about 10 p.m. on Thursday evening. The accident occurred about 4 a.m. yesterday morning when Mr Cox swerved to avoid a collision with two steers which dashed out of the bush on to the narrow road.
