This Studentship has been made possible through financial assistance from the Snell Chemical Company, and will carry a living allowance from £7OO P.A.. depending on age and experience. It will be under the supervision of the Head of the Department of Pathology, from whom further particulars can be obtained. Professor E. W. Titterton C.M.G.. F.A.A.L Among the posts available are:— Senior Fellowship—£3ooo£3550. Senior Research Fellowship—-£262o-£3160. Fellowships—£2lsl-£3OOO. Research Fellowship— £ 1656£2450. The Department is well equipped with a 12 MeV Tandem electrostatic accelerator, a 2 MeV Van der Graaff generator, and a 1.2 MeV Cockroft-Wal-ton machine. Two precision particle spectrometers. a .Buechner spectrograph, crystal, solid state, gas and emulsion detectors with associated multichannel recording equipment are available for use with these machines. An IBM 1620 computer is available for data reduction. The main fields of work are in nuclear structure studies. Superannuation is on the F.S.S.U. pattern. Reasonable travel expenses are paid, and assistance with housing is porvided. In addition to the posts referred to above, a number of scholarships is available for men who have completed a M.Sc. degree or who have had outstanding results in their Honours B Sc. examinations. The scholarships are tenable for two or three years, and the basic allowance is £950 per annum: married scholars with dependent children may be granted an additional allowance of £3lO per annum in respect of the first child and a further £9O per anum for each other child. A contribution towards fares is paid. Applications are invited for staff positions and scholarships and the posts may be taken up at any time during 1963.
