The New Zealand Derby Stakes winner, Tactile, will race new in the £1250 New Zealand Champion Stake* at Ashburton on December 26, to be followed by the Great Northern Derby Stakes at Auckland three days later. The New Zealand DerbyChampion Stakes-Great Northern Derby treble has never been conn>le>ted and in fact it has seldom been attempted Lordship made a bold bid to win all three races last season, but after winning at Addington and Ashburton he was beater, narrowly by Waitaki Hanover at Auckland.
Tactile will probably leave for Australia early in the New Year. He is at present assessed at 4min 28sec for two miles and should he win at both Ashburton and Auckland he would graduate to a 4min 24sec mark.
