FESTIVAL WEEK

Change Of Time Suggested By holding a Carnival Week and a Festival Week at different times, Christ - church could be dissipating its effort, said the Public Relations Officer (Mr E. G. Beckett), in his report to the Canterbury Progress

League's meeting last evening. It might be of advantage if the promoters of Festival Week "changed their thinking” to November, and combined with Carnival Week, to ensure that the city had a festive air, Mr Beckett said. Remarks about dissipation of effort had been made by some Carnival Week visitors. said Mr Beckett. They had said that Carnival Week could not be compared with carnivals and festivals in other centres—and it had to be admitted that Carnival Week activity this year had not been as great as in past years. “Carnival Week has the essential ingredients to ensure success, whereas the February Festival Week occurs at a bad tome, lacks support from the business community, and is art a time when there are insufficient flowers for the decoration of shops and floats," Mr Beckett said.

There was no doubt that Camjvat Week visitors were in a spending mood, as were the "local citizenry.” and this should ensure the success of extra events, he said, in suggesting the amalgamation of Festival Week.
