GOVERNOR’S VISIT
Civic Welcome Tomorrow More than 700 seat's will be available in the Civic Theatre tomorrow evening for the civic reception to the Gover-nor-General and Lady Fergusson. Their Excellencies will arrive at the Royal New Zealand Air Force station Wigram, where Sir Bernard Fergusson will inspect a guard of honour before leaving for the city. Sir Bernard and Lady Fergusson will be staying at the United Service Hotel. The Mayor (Mr G. Manning) and Mrs Manning will be the guests of their Excellencies at a luncheon there before taking them on a tour of the city and environs.
The party will return about 4 p.m. The civic reception will begin at 8.15 p.m. About 500 persons have been specially invited to the function but more than half the theatre will be open to the public. The doors will open ait 7.15 p.m. The function will begin with a formal address of welcome by the Mayor with a formal reply from Sir Bernard Fergusson. The official welcome will be supported by the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt. Rev. A. K. Warren) and Brigadier J. T. Burrows. Speeches will be interspersed with musical items. The reception will be broadcast on station 3YA at 10 p.m. tomorrow evening. The Governor-General and Lady Fergusson will leave Christchurch early on Wednesday.
