STAFFING SCHOOLS

Committee To

Investigate

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Nov. 22.

A committee will be set up to investigate and report in detail upon the needs of primary and post-primary schools for ancillary staffing, such as clerical assistance, the Minister of Education <Mr Tennent) announced today. “The commission on Education recommended that such a committee should be set up,” said Mr Tennent. “and I have now written to the appropriate organisations inviting them to name their representatives. “The committee will comprise representatives from the controlling boards, the teachers’ organisations and the Department of Education. It will examine the use being made of the ancillary staff now provided and consider what extensions of this form of assistance to teachers might be justified. “I hope that it will be pos-

sible for the committee to make its report during 1963," said Mr Tennent, "in order that the Government may be in a position to consider the whole question in full detail before the beginning of the next school year.' ’
