Public Apathy On Delinquency
(NX. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Nov. 19 It was useless merely to decry crime and delinquency unless people were really prepared to do something to reduce it. Father L. V. Downey, Roman Catholic prison chaplain at Auckland, told a Rotary Club luncheon meeting today. “Most citizens can afford to be apathetic towards crime because comparatively few people are affected byit,” he said. "But the reports presented to Parliament by the Justice Department show an alarming state of affairs in relation to our population.”
