Chinese-Indian War
Sir,—There is a tremendous amount of ignorance about the true facts of the ChineseIndian border dispute. When China was in the grip of occupying Powers and warlords in 1914, the British invaded Tibet with the intention of adding it to India, but the First World War broke out and prevented further action. China protested at the time, and since then "the areas taken over have remained part of India. The Chinese have stood up now, and want these disputed lands returned. This is the truth of the matter, and no amount of statements to the contrary can justify the Indian attitude. Nevertheless, it is a surprise that two peace-lov-
ing nations such as India and China should resort to force. —Yours, etc., P.J.A. November 20, 1962.
