Waitaki River Experiment -The Press” Special Service DUNEDIN, Nov. 19. By introducing English and New Zealand sea trout to the Waitaki river, the Otago Acclimatisation Society hopes to breed a bigger and better fish for anglers. Before this can be done, however, the society has to clear the river of resident trout
The Waitaki river has been declared an experimental ! water to enable experiments ■ to be carried out with migratory and non-mdgratory fish. Under the supervision of Dr. D. Scott, most of the ■ present stock of trout will be removed from the river early next year. Tagged fish, including Eng- : lish sea trout. New Zealand sea trout and resident brown ' trout will be liberated in the river.
It is intended to liberate the experimental fish being held in the Waitaki batch- ; eries into the Waitaki river during the winter of 1963.
