COLLISION OF SHIPS
17 Die, 22 Still Missing (N.Z.P.A -Reuter—Copyright) TOKYO. November 19 The Japanese Maritime Safety Board said today that 17 Japanese seamen had been confirmed dead and 22 others missing in the collision between the Munakata Mans and the Norwegian freighter. Harald Broving. The Munakata Maru. with a crew of 36. was entering Kawasaki Port, near Tokyo yesterday morning when it was involved in a collision with the Harald Broving with a crew of 47. The Norwegian vessel caught fire. It was bound for the Persian Gulf after unloading oil. The Munakata Maru. carrying 36.000 kilolitres of oil, was engulfed with flames almost immediately after the collision The fire also Involved two Japanese barges nearby and three crew members from these are also missing. The Norwegian crew members and passengers swam to safety.
