No Claims To Ownership
(Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) LONDON. November 17. The existence of an unidentified satellite, of which the ownership is admitted neither by the United States, nor the Soviet Union, is disclosed in the latest issue of the magazine, “Flight," says the "Guardian." "Orbital details of the satellite, stated to have been launched on August 12 and to have re-entered the earth's atmosphere on August 24. are included in a special section devoted to tables and charts covering the first five years of the space era,” the newspaper says.
"Official lists of American spacecraft have included United States Air Force satellites launched on August 9 and August 17, but nothing in between these dates. ‘Flight’ identified this satellite as one launched on August 12 Into a circular orbit 113 miles high at an inclination to the equator of 65 degrees. These figures agree with those in the current issue of a satellite list prepared and privately circulated by the space department of the Royal Aircraft Establishment. Both the magazine and the RAE., however, admit these orbital data are unconfirmed."
