WOMEN’S GAMES

Hat Trick By L. McKinnon The highlight of play in the women’s cricket competition on Saturday was the bowling of the St. Albans in player, L. McKinnon, who scored 43 and took four for 27, including the hattrick, against Technical. Scores:— St. Albans II v. Technical At Ensors road. Technical was hard pressed to beat St. Albans II by 11 runs. St. Albans was sent in to bat and against rather negative bowling did well to make 109 runs. P. Blackler (52) and T. Baker (15) gave the side the best partnership of the innings. Technical’s fielding was not good; it lacked the usual sharpness to cut down the run making. J. Goddard, although not taking a wicket, was the best Technical bowler. P. Moore (three for 14) and O. Williams (two for 30) were the successful bowlers. The Technical openers, P. Moore and J. Goddard, set a fast pace at the start, but with the score at 44 J. Goddard on 23, was run out through a smart and accurate return by J. Watson. P. Moore had little assistance from the remainder of her team and it was a fighting innings of 71—but not the usual Moore display—which paved the way for a first innings victory by 11 runs. The St. Albans bowlers. J. Watson and P. Blackler, bowled accurately and well; both fully deserved their wickets. Watson took three for 50 and Blackler took five for 55. Western v. Beckenham At Beckenham Park. Western batted first. E. Woods (33) and J. Witte (15) batted well, but the side was dismissed for 76. J. Lowe (four for 31) bowled extremely well for Beckenham, as did L. Hawes (two for 28). Beckenham could manage only a moderate 66, although the consistent E. Overend (25) and J. Lowe (22) batted well. It was through the excellent Western fielding that the scoring was kept down. E. Woods took six for 40 and P. Adair took four for 25 for Western. St. Albans 111 v. Mai Moa At St. James Park St. Albans was sent in to bat and once again scored a formidable total. Top scorer was the captain, L. McKinnon (43), H. Steere and N. Steere scored 20 each. M. Alabaster. 15 not out, and K. Pyatt 12. The side was dismissed for 142. A feature of the match was the fielding of a newcomer, G. Beaton, who caught particularly well. L. Turner (five for 33) led the Mai Moa attack with able support from N. Motz (two for 22). Mai Moa replied with 104. The fielding of St. Albans gave little away and the batsmen found it very hard to penetrate. Top scorer was N. Motz (29). Other scorers Were Ana Rouse (24), J. Edmonds (14) and J. Padget 13). The consistent St. Albans bowler, L. McKinnon, took four for 27, including the hat-trick. H. Steere (two for 28) and K. Pyatt (two for 28) were other good St. Albans bowlers. Teachers* College v. St. Albans I Teachers’ College could find no counter to the bowling of J. Dickinson and K. Wilkinson, the side being dismissed for 28. J. Dickinson took four for 13 and K. Wilkinson two for 12. St. Albans declared with 77 for one wicket. J. Dickinson top scored with 29. A. Colville scored 19 not out, and the consistent J. Wilson scored 20 not out. Teachers’ College did a little better in its second innings with A. Giles heading the scores with 24 and M. Cresswell scoring 11 not out. The side was all out for 46. J. Dickinson, in fine form again, tok three for 14. giving her a match aggregate of seven for 27. K. Wilkinson took two for 12.
