FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An anti-cyclone centred to the west of Northland extends over the North Island. A cold front is moving east over the South Island. Forecast:—

Canterbury.—Moderate westerlies; some rain about the alps; scattered showers elsewhere this morning; winds becoming variable later and weather clearing, except for a few showers in the west and south; mild temperatures. Outlook: partly cloudy.

Marlborough.—Strong west to north-west winds; mainly cloudy; scattered showers at times; temperatures mild. Outlook: partly cloudy. Nelson.—Moderate northerly or westerly winds; cloudy, with some showers, chiefly in western areas; mild temperatures. Outlook: occasional showers. Buller and Westland.—Moderate to fresh northerlies, but a change to fresh westerlies spreading from the south during the morning; rain at first, easing to scattered showers later; cooler temperatures.
