VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE
Compensation Suggested (Special Crspdt N Z.P.A.) LONDON, Nov. 6. A scheme to compensate victims of crimes of violence has been suggested in a report issued by “Justice.” the British section of the International Commission of Jurists under the chairmanship of bond Shawcross.
It would cost about £1,250.000 a year for England and Wales.
The report expressed the opinion that the State was obliged to compensate victims of crime and that the victims of violence had a better claim than victims of theft, fraud or •marterial damage. The report recommends the setting up of a Crimes of Violence Compensaition. Board because it thinks the ordinary Courts would be too slow, too costly amd, perhaps, too respectful of precedent.
The board would comprise a legally qualified chairman, a doctor and a magistrate, one of whom should be a woman.
