NEGRO SINGER VISITS CITY
“Frogman” Henry
The negro singer Clarence Henry, who will give the first of his performances in Christchurch this evening, was born and bred in New Orleans, the traditional birthplace of jazz. Mr Henry is regarded as a full-blooded negro, though there is some French blood in his veins. He has been playing the piano by ear since he was five years and a half. After playing in his high school band he became a professional entertainer at the age at 18, seven years ago. The nickname “Frogman’ stuck to him when in his early recording days he sang “The Frog Song.” Tours of Britain, the Continent, Jamaica and Canada have punctuated his career in America. This is his first trip to the Southern Hemisphere.
