GOLF CLUB BURGLARY
Two Sentenced To Gaol Two men who were convicted by a Supreme Court jury on Wednesday of unlawfully entering the Templeton Country Golf Club’s clubhouse in Pound road on June 30 with intent to commit theft were sentenced to a year’s gaol each. Mr Justice Richmond said that because the pair was not convicted of actually breaking and entering the clubhouse —from which £6O worth of liquor, tobacco and chocolate was stolen he would take the view that someone else in the party of five was the initiator.
“But you two availed yourselves of what had been done and you assisted to remove the goods,” said his Honour.
“Jt seems clear that this episode »as one of those that young meh~Who.are so inclined seem to regard almost as some sort of entertainment or game. Generally liquor plays a part. I suppose you get some excitement from it. It is not so exciting for those who suffer from it—and as I have had occasion to say before, it is not the kind of game you can play with impunity.”
His Honour said both men had bad records, and both had come through their apprenticeship in that sort of thing. Their records put them in a different class from the three others already dealt with for their part in the affair.
