ATHLETICS Three Records At St. Bedes’ College Sports Meeting

B Teen and G. Keddell. who dominated the senior sprints at the St. Bede's College athletic sports at the college yesterday, both established new records. Teen, a vigorous stylist, just beat Keddell in the 75 yards in S lsec. bettering the record held by M. G. Bugler and D. W. Giedhill. by .Isec. But Keddelll, who lost to Teen again in the 220 yards, won the 100 yards and the 440 yards. He was 2sec outside R. F. Warren's 14-year-old record of 52.2 sec in the championship quar-ter-mile. but in the handicap event he won from scratch in he excellent time of 51.9 sec. Brown's Fine Running These two records were commendable performances, but perhaps the most impressive senior was the middle-distance' runner. B. Brown, who won the half-mile in 2min 4.6 sec. the mile in 4min 37.65ec. and the handicap mile in 4min 31sec. Off scratch in this latter race, Brown raced through ar. enormous field in four effortless laps With more stimulus there would have been little doubt that J. T. Powers’ record of 4min 23.65ec would have been broken. Double Winner

K. Loughnan distinguished himself in the senior high and long jumps. He won the high jump with sft 61n and just failed at sft 81n. His winning leap in the long jump was 20ft Bin. The outstanding junior was P. M. Walsh who equalled the high jump record of sft 3in and broke the shot put record of 42ft 61 in with a throw of 44ft 2in. In addition. Walsh won the hop, step and jump, the long jump, and was second in the 100 yards.

A runner of potential was the Intermediate. D. Capper, who won the quarter, half and mile events. Capper’s time of 2mln B.2sec was a very good effort as he had to make his own pace. He finished in a fast gallop and seemed undistressed at the tape. Close to Record N. Forrest came close to equalling N. J. Gibson’s 17-year-old intermediate high jump record of sft Bin. Gibson, who used the western roll, was a perfect stylist in his day, but Forrest, rather big for a high jumper, employed the almost forgotten scissors style. Nonetheless he cleared sft 6in. but on the wav down his trailing leg hit the bar and dislodged it. Results:— CHAMPIONSHIPS Senior 75 Yards (record. 82. M. G. Bugler 1958; D. W. Giedhill, 1959; J. P.
