TROTTING Dyson And Lakeda May Win Double At Oamaru

Dyson and Lakeda could form the successful doubles combination on the first day of the Oamaru Trotting Club’s spring meeting on Saturday. Form is well disclosed in the first leg, the George Bruce Memorial Handicap, but a few fresh horses in the second leg, the October Handicap, complicate the position there.

Dyson showed that he was close to winning form when he beat all but the speedy Cairnbrae at Motukarara a fortnight ago. That was his third start for the season and he should be even better now. The opposition does not look to be particularly strong and he should go close to winning.

Sarona followed up some fair efforts by beating all but Garrison Royal over two miles at Forbury Park last Saturday. The U. Scott mare has shown promise and at times her efforts have been good enough to give her a chance of winning on Satururday. If she receives a favourable run, she should be close. Forest Grattan has not paced a really bad race this season and he has been placed in his last three startsHe tired a little to finish third in Garrison Royal’s race at Forbury Park last week, but that was not surprising as he was a little slow early. Forest Grattan is usually most reliable and he stays gamely. He could easily gain an overdue win at this meeting. Arriaga tired to eighth at Motukarara at her most recent start, but she could be improved by the race. She has won over two miles on the Oamaru course and could again take part in the finish. True Fight has had a third and a fifth from his two starts this season- He is unlikely to graduate far through the classes, but in his present form he must be considered in this field. Bonnieburn could upset calculations. The Gay Piper gelding paced a good race for fifth in the two-mile event won by Great Credit at Ashburton three weeks ago. He was checked early and was well back for the first halfmile. He will only have to escape trouble in the first furlong to be one of the hardest to head. La Storm and Safe Return have little in the way of recent worth while form to recommend them, but in the past both have shown stamina. They appeal most of the remainder, but will need plenty of luck to beat Dyson.

Lakeda, which is trained at Oamaru by her owner, J. W. Dalgety, should go dose to winning the October Handicap. She showed brilliant speed to finish third on the first night at Forbury Park when making a fresh start. She broke badly early and made little improvement until the last two furlongs. She was finishing faster than any of her rivals at the post. If that race has taken no serious toll, she should soon improve onf that placing. Aiblins followed up some unlucky racing with a wellmerited win at Motukarara. The Stormyway gelding has drawn favourably and he should be close to the lead all the way. If he can be restrained until the final furlong, he should outsprint most of his rivalsinglemead will be making a fresh start, but lack of racing might not prevent her making a bold showing. Her form towards the end of last season was of a high standard and good enough to give her a great chance in this race. Trusted and Anama will form a strong bracket for their Hinds trainer. W. E. Lowe. Trusted finished second in his two starts at Forbury Park and he will have to show very little improvement to extend his record on Saturday. Anama was a sound fifth at Motukarara at her last start after being- well back until the straight. My Share failed by a nose to beat Legendary at Motukarara. He has been penalised 12 yards for that placing and the size of the field could be against him on Saturday. He will be bracketed with Seriatim, which will also start from 12 yards. Both have shown useful speed at times this season. Local Princess failed at Motukarara after finishing a good second at her previous

start. She, too, cannot be left out of calculations. Mighty Storm, Nolens Volens, and Russley Hanover are others expected to add interest to the finish.
