SAFETY DISPLAY
A change has been made from the type of farm safety display used at recent shows, and films will be the main medium this time. Some of the topics will include the safe use of tractors and other machinery, hazards for children, firearms, dangers from animals, poisons, and correct use of electrical equipment.
Each year the Northern Agricultural and Pastoral Association contributes to this phase of Young Farmers’ Club activities by making space available to the district committee. The committee has two farm safety officers. Mr N. Miles (Cust-West Eyreton club) and Mr P. Stevenson (Scargill-Omihi club), who in turn are assisted by various club farm safety officers.
As well as the farm safety project at the show, the officers arrange field days, and give addresses to outside organisations. Reports on accidents are compiled for analysis by the National Safety Association.
