PRESIDENT OF Y. F. C.
This year’s president of the North Canterbury district Committee of Young Farmers’ Clubs is Mr John Wyllie, who farms in conjunction with his father, Mr A. D, Wyllie, at Omaha.
Educated at St Andrew’s College, Mr Wyllie has taken a keen interest in Y.F.C. activities since leaving school. He has graduated through the various offices of the Scargill. Omihi club and earlier this year he was elected the district president. Although engaged in mixed farming. Mr Wyllie is
keenly interested in stock, particularly Southdown sheep. He has been a prominent representative for the North Canterbury district in the Y.F.C. national stockjudging competitions. Last year he gained most points over all sections in the competition which includes judging Southdown, Corriedale and Romney sheep; fat lambs; horses; beef cattie; dairy cattle; and pigs. It was no surprise that he won the Southdown section of the competition at Blenheim in 1958, for the family owns the “Burnfoot” stud, which has won most points in the Southdown sections of the shows at Rangiora and Amberley in each of the last three years. Cattle figure in the family’s farming operations also, Aberdeen Angus cross being carried for beef production. Mr Wyllae has taken an active part in show organisation and he has been a committee member of the Amberley Agricultural and Pastoral Association for the last three years. Sport has figured in Mr Wyllie’s activities too. He has represented North Canter, bury at Rugby as a full-back. During the summer he has played tennis and cricket, mainly as relaxation. Married with one child, Mr Wyllie is a member of the management committee of Glenmark Presbyterian Church.
