SHIPWRECKED TONGANS RESCUED BY ROYAL NEW ZEALAND AIR FORCE.—Survivors from the Tongan yacht Tuaikaepau, which was wrecked on Minerva Reef, 420 miles south of Suva, on July 7, photographed on the shell of a Japanese trawler wrecked on the reef three years ago. They lived on the trawler for more than three months until rescued by a Sunderland flying-boat of the R.N.Z.A.F. It was only because two members of the crew reached Kadavu on a raft that an air search was made of Minerva Reef and the remaining survivors found. Five of the Tuaikaepau’s crew lost their lives. —R.N.Z.A.F. photograph by wire.
