ELECTION IN GRENADA

Labour Party Defeated

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) ST. GEORGE (Grenada), Sept. 16.

The Grenada Administrator is expected to call on Mr Herbert Blaize to form a Government after his Grenada National Party’s win in the General Election. The G.N.P. defeated the Grenada United Labour Party, which held power until the Government was dissolved last June, by winning six seats in the new Legislature against the Labour Party’s four. This was a gain of four seats by the National Party. The Labour Party is led by Mr Eric Gairy, who was dismissed by the British Government after a commission of inquiry reported that he had controlled public expenditure irregularly. Both Mr Gain? and his wife, Cynthia, retained their seats with reduced majorities. The National Party campaigned for union with the new Commonwealth state of Trinidad and Tobago.
