WEEK-NIGHT GLIDING

Club Extends

Flying

Such is the enthusiasm of its members, the Wigram Gliding Club has begun supplementing week-end soaring with after-work gliding on week-days. On fine nights, from 5.10 p.m. to 6.30 p.m., they have been getting maximum use from their two gliders. As daylight hours lengthen so will week-night gliding. Since its formation in March, 1961. the club’s members had made 1337 flights by last evening. Some 400 of these were in the early period with the Canterbury Gliding Club. Early this year Wigram members got their own Tiger Moth and Rhonlerche glider, and just over a month ago added an Olympia glider to its fleet.

Since January, the Rhonlerche has logged 180 hours in the air, and the Olympia 17 hours. The refurbished Tiger Moth has flown 137 hours.

The club now has 60 active members, including some from the Army. Fourteen newcomers to gliding have been trained to solo standard.
