FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A deep depression lies to the south of New Zealand and a south-westerly airstream is spreading on to the South Island from the Tasman Sea. Forecast: — Canterbury and West Coast.—Moderate to fresh south-west winds, strong in a few exposed coastal positions; weather changeable with showers and fair intervals; temperatures becoming rather cold with some snow on the ranges. Outlook: brief showers and fair intervals. Marlborough and Nelson.—Fresh or strong west or north-west winds tending to south-westerlies in Nelson and on the Kaikoura coast; changeable weather with occasional showers and fair intervals; temperatures rather cold.
