RANDOM REMINDER
PSYCHO AT THE BATH
The bathroom reveals more, to those prepared to see, than the unhappy fact that the battle of the bulges is being steadily lost. It is only in the bathroom that one is really alone with oneself; some of the discoveries are astounding. Two recent incidents serve to show what we mean. The first relates to a high school boy who came home with the complaint that some-one had taken his gym. shorts. But, as he told his parents, he was not
going to be put upon like that, so, aware that there should be an extra pair somewhere, he had picked up some shorts, to keep the tally square. A few minutes later he was sent to shower; while preparing for his ablutions he discovered his own shorts. He was still wearing them, beneath his school pants. The other incident is even more revealing, although is has nothing to do with What the Butler Saw. There is in Christchurch a young married
woman who always takes the telephone from the hook before retiring to the bathroom. This is not because of some unreasoning fear that the Post and Telegraph Department has surreptitiously installed a combination of television and telephone. It is simply that this youns woman leaves the receiver off because if it rang while she was in the bath she would be consumed with curiosity about the identity of the caller.
