FIRM’S FILES STOLEN

Spies for Common Market countries were believed to have been responsible for the theft of four hundredweight of files from an engineering firm at Hitchin. Hertfordshire, last week, according to the “Sunday Telegraph.” Papers giving reports about hundreds of potential British customers that would be unknown to a Continental rival were stolen.
The thieves were believed to be an international gang posing as industrial consultants, said Mr Charles Kellard, the managing-director of Almco Supersheen. the metal component polishing firm raided “The five or six competitors m this country are like a scattered family and we know and trust them,” Mr Kellard said. “There are active competitors in Germany and France geared up to light industry.” Mr Kellard said that the stolen files contained reports by representatives on the orders and requirements of British firms. The overseas files were not disturbed. The Hitchin firm deals with big companies, including Imperial Chemical Industries, de Havilland and English Electric, the “Sunday Telegraph” said.
