Hoot Gibson Dies
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) HOLLYWOOD, Aug. 23. Hoot Gibson, the rough-rid-ing, quick-shooting cowboy of three decades of western films, died today of cancer. He was 70. He died at the Motion Picture Hospital, where he was admitted last Sunday, the Associated Press reported. Mr Gibson was among the first of the film stuntment before developing into a western hero in 1920 and riding his way through 310 films—many of them one-reel affairs —before hanging up his spurs in 1956. Many of his films are known to present-day audiencs through viewings on television.
