AUCKLAND. August 26
Mr Peter Walker, a member of the House of Commons. who has been campaigning against Britain's move to join the Common Market, left Auckland for Vancouver today well pleased with his reception in New Zealand. He will speak in several parts of Canada before returning to London lust before the conference of Commonwealth Prime Ministers.
His visit to Australia and New Zealand had been of some value to the Government. Mr Walker said He had managed to correct the impression that Mr Macmillan was selling the Commonwealth “down the Rh:rft> "
Mr Walker said that though he could guaranatee Britain would not enter the EEC without making arrangements for safeguarding the Commonwealth. he would continue to oppose entry because it was uncertain that ap,v safeguards would hold good Mr Walker said he was pleased with the way New Zealand politicians and businessmen had reacted to a "call to the Commonwealth” manifesto which he had helned to draw up The manifesto suggested closer economic co-operation and a more positive approach to Commonwealth trade.
