CUT FROM SERVICES
Bloodthirsty Psalms
(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) LONDON. August 22
Bloodthirsty psalms from the Old Testament have been cut from services at the 803-year-old parish church of St Mary’s, Woodford. Essex, by the rector, according to the "Daily Mail."
The Rev. Christophej Wansey has condemned 84 of the 150 psalms as “not fit for Christians to sing" and has substituted New Testament passages.
Of the psalms. Mr Wansey said: "The 84 psalms . are full of tribal jealousies bloodthirsty threats and curses, whinings and meanings. These are shocking in themselves and time-wasting to God and man. “The Church has been singing these psalms regularly ever since our Prayer Book was first introduced on August 24, 1662. Some of them she has been singing 300 years too long " Mr Wansey said 55 passages from the New Testament had been chosen and pointed for Anglican chanting. They would be substituted for the psalms at morning prayer on Sunday
