CONVERSION CHARGE
Nelson Youth Discharged (N.Z. Press Association) NELSON. Aug. 24. “I am’ prepared to accept that you were in an overwrought state at the time,” Mr G. A. Nicholls, S.M., told Russell Ivan Woodcock, aged 18, in the Magistrate’s Court at Nelson today. Woodcock had pleaded guilty last week to taking a' car valued at £l5OO and was! remanded until today so that! tlte Magistrate could see his parents. The Magistrate, discharging him under section 42 of; the Criminal Justice Act,' said: “I have been told you took this car because of the' circumstances which arose ini your home. I am not con-1 cerned with what happened, but I can appreciate that you! were in a state of turmoil I However, that w’as not the; proper way of putting it I right. You have now made your protest and let off a I certain amount of steam. 1 expect you now to settle; down.” The Magistrate said he' would not impose a conviction because that would be I on defendants record for life.
