Badminton Christchurch Loses Last Match, But Wins Title

Although losing to Avonside in the final round of matches this week, Christchurch finished a clear winner of the Canterbury Badminton Association’s A grade competition. Christchurch has given steady performances throughout the season in both its men’s and women's sections, and had not suffered a loss until this week, when narrowly defeated by the 1961 champion team. Avonside. The provincial women’s titleholder, Miss J. Davidson, who recently returned from her tennis trip overseas, was too strong for Miss E. Reaston in the top women's singles. Final competition points are: Christchurch 7, Avonside 7. Selwyn I 5. Railway 4, Knox 2j, Selwyn II 2}. Results were : AVONSIDE 9, CHRISTCHURCH 7 Men’s Singles.—P. Boatwood lost to D. Men’s Doubles.—Boatwood and Wylie lost to Reid and Macefield. 8-15; Ogier and Clarke beat Bradbury and Lawrence. 17-14.

Women’s Doubles.—Miss Davidson and Mrs Brown beat Misses Reaston and Baty, 15-12; Mesdames Boatwood and Atkinson lost to Miss Wilson and Miss Newton, 8-15.

Mixed Doubles—Wylie and Mrs Brown beat Macefield and Miss Reaston, 15-7: Boatwood and Miss Davidson lost to Reid and Miss Baty, 12-15; Clarke and Mrs Boatwood beat Bradbury and Mrs Newton, 15-3: Ogier and Mrs Atkinson beat Lawrence and Miss Wilson. 15-11.
