(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND. Aug. 24
The construction of the internaitional . airport at Mangere was a priority job, said the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) in a letter received by the Auckland Airport Committee. He assured the committee that the Government would place no obstacle in the way of its completion. "On the assumption that runways and associated services will be completed by October, 1964, it is hoped that the balance of the buildings will be completed, the technical equipment installed and tested, and the airport proved operationally by, the latter part of 1965.” he said. It was possible that the airport would be available for lesser traffic than scheduled commercial jet airlines before that date but he was informed that no more definite information could be given. Providing the weather was good, the earthworks at the construction job should be completed early in the New Year, said the district commissioner of works (Mr W; I. McKinnon).
