His Majesty’s Reply

Thailand and New Zealand had the same aspirations—peace and progress for everyone. said the King of Thailand yesterday, at the civic reception in the Civic Theatre. After a brief reference to the delay in his Christchurch arrival, the King said: "We had to come here, no matter the weather, to bring the greetings of our people to all the people of this part of New Zealand. “We are glad to be here and most thankful because you have made wonderful arrangements—even the sunshine has appeared for a moment

“We have found many things of interest and many beautiful things in the North Island. In the South Island, or should 1 say the middle island, we have found the same spirit of balance be-

tween all activities of the •

people—that is for the activity in agriculture and industry.

“In this city of Christchurch we find many wonderful things. Among them is good city planning, which is a great thing for a city. I congratulate all of you for the part you have taken in the building of the whole of New Zealand.” After mentioning his country's and New Zealand's common aim of peace and progress. His Majesty said they must continue to work, not only for the benefit of themselves, but for the Whole world.

“We must work for the future of our children and their children,” so it is my fervent wish that all of you should meet with success and prosperity. From the people of Thailand I wish the people of Christchurch and of New Zealand the best of luck and a bright future ”
